Marian was born in Cleveland Ohio to John Edmond and Gertrude Connor Garvey, the oldest of seven children. After graduating from East High School, Marian started her career with a small shipping company in Cleveland. She met her late husband Andy on a hayride shortly after WWII. After they married, she traveled the country as a USAF spouse while having and raising six children. They eventually settled in Clinton Maryland where she worked for the Census Bureau and then the Social Security Administration until retirement. For many years, Marian was a volunteer with the American Red Cross at Malcolm Grow Hospital and the Thrift Shop at Andrews Air Force Base. Golf was a favorite pastime after she learned to play on the Andrews Golf Course and she played often with friends before she and Andy moved to the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville MD. There she met many new friends playing table tennis, socializing, and volunteering. Her favorite hobbies were reading and needlework – crocheting an afghan for each of her many grandchildren and knitting tiny newborn caps for gifts and donation. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and had a special talent for memorizing song lyrics, short poems, and silly ditties, which she recited often to the delight of family and friends.
