Marian Mae Whitman

Marian Mae Whitman, age 87, of Catonsville, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024; She was born on August 22, 1936 in Minnesota to parents, Francis Barnhardt and Ruth Marjorie Goehring; Beloved wife of the late Richard John Whitman (d.1996); Loving mother of Lori J. Myers and husband Paul, and Richard J. Whitman II and wife Dorothy; Cherished grandmother of Paul Myers (Rosemary), Katie Phipps (Matt), Erin Cates, and Paige Binder (Josh), and great-grandmother of Delaney, Khloe, Liam, and Joe; Dear sister of Jean Marie Lyon, and the late Bernard, Warren, Rhoda, Lawrence, John, Norman, and Ray. She is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Sue, Marie, Susan and Ellie, one brother-in-law: Ed, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marian’s most cherished moments were spent with her family. She loved reminiscing with her siblings about their childhood adventures growing up on the farm. Music was a favorite family activity. Her mother played the piano. Two brothers played guitar and everyone would sing along.

Marian met and married Richard in Tacoma Washington and Lori was born while they still lived there. Rick was born in California. Marian’s husband was in the Air Force, which meant a lot of moving to different locations. They also lived in Texas and Japan before finally settling in Maryland.

Summers often meant a road trip to North Dakota for a big family reunion. When the grandchildren began to arrive, the whole family would vacation together in Ocean City.

Marian and Richard loved to travel, and visited many destinations all around the country. In her later years, Marian took up oil painting as a hobby, and became an integral part of the Charlestown Retirement Community, where she contributed to the community as a head usher in their Chapel for several years. Her love for family and treasured friendships left a lasting impact on those in her life.
