Mattie Lee Joyner was born on March 20, 1927 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The only child of Herbert Uzzell and Pearlie Joyner, departed this life on December 28th 2013, at Gilchrist Hospice care after years of battling cancer. Mattie was baptized in Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina where she sang in the church choir. Known to her children and grandchildren as "mommie", Mattie met the love of her life Earl Peoples. Earl was a longtime family friend and grew up across the street from her in North Carolina. After, graduating from Dillard High School she later married him on December 4th 1943. They moved to New York City where their home was blessed with eleven children. Her life was devoted to raising her children. She and Earl later moved to Columbia Maryland in May of 1979 with their youngest daughter where she had been a resident for 34 years. She leaves to mourn 10 children, 25 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She will be deeply missed by all.
