Robert Lee Airey, born on October 18, 1944, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Maryland to the late William and Elizabeth Airey, Robert lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet devotion to those he loved most.
Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including tending to his garden, spending time outdoors, and traveling, especially to San Diego. He also dedicated countless hours to building intricate train gardens by hand, carefully crafting mountains, landscapes, and detailed scenes that reflected both his creativity and patience. A deeply spiritual man and proud patriot, Robert honorably served in the Army National Guard.
Above all else, Robert put family first. He showed his love not just through words, but through his constant presence, support, and selfless care. He tended to his parents as they aged, cherished his wife, and proudly encouraged his children and grandchildren. He was endlessly proud of his family and never missed an opportunity to uplift those around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Nancy Airey; his loving children, Ryan Michael Airey and Heather Rachelle Bush (Chris); and his cherished grandchildren, Lexie Airey and Maddie Bush, who lovingly knew him as “Pop.” He is also survived by his sister, Jennifer Diederichs (Al); his brother, Jeffrey Airey (Arlene); and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and again on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at the same location. Interment will take place at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
