Robert "Bob" Heinschel, born on August 6, 1940, in Smith Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024 in Columbia, Maryland. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Robin (Kirkpatrick) Heinschel, and is survived by his daughter, Nancy Heinschel of Maryland; his brother, Phil Heinschel, and his niece, Tara Puccio, both of Colorado.
A longtime resident of Concord, California, Bob worked as a telecommunications engineer for Chevron for 20 years before retiring in 1999. He was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, where he completed two tours in Vietnam and one in Thailand. He continued to serve, teaching for the Army Reserves, ultimately retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Bob traveled extensively, both for work and pleasure, including multiple visits to Australia and New Guinea and family road trips across the lower 48. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas ("Rock chalk, Jayhawk!") and a Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Colorado. Bob graduated a year early from Smith Center High School and enjoyed the reunions for both the classes of 1957 and 1958.
His humor, loyalty, and adventurous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
