Virginia Violet Tauber, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the remarkable age of 98. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Mary and August Smith, Virginia was the youngest and last survivor of her siblings: her brother Irving Schadler and her sisters Dorothy Fink and Edith Fosler.
Virginia spent her early years in Baltimore before her family relocated to Pasadena, Maryland, where they managed a cherished family farm. She attended Pasadena Elementary and Glen Burnie High School, creating lifelong connections in the community that became her home.
In 1949, Virginia married the love of her life, Julius W. Tauber, and they shared 66 wonderful years together until his passing in 2015. Virginia was known for her strength and fierce spirit, as well as her warmth and generosity as a hostess. She loved gathering her family and extended family together, creating a close-knit community that will carry her memory forward.
Virginia began her career working in Baltimore’s historic Candler Building and later served with the State of Maryland in the Department of Environment. Alongside her professional life, she supported her husband and son in their family business, Tauber’s Service, Inc. Originally established in the 1930s as a gas station known as Tauber’s Amoco, the business evolved in the 1970s into an exclusive towing company, becoming a trusted and enduring presence in Linthicum Heights, Maryland.
She and Julius shared a passion for travel, exploring the United States from the East Coast to the West Coast, and from the North to the South, creating countless memories along the way.
Virginia is survived by her son, Michael J. Tauber, and his wife Sharon; her three grandchildren, Kaitlyn P. Tauber, Ashley E. Titus (and her husband Anthony), and Michael J. Lichtenberg (and his wife Melanie); and her four great-grandchildren, Ava Pevo, Lacey Lichtenberg, Autumn Lichtenberg, and Evelyn Titus. Her strength, warmth, and legacy of family love will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
