Born in Virginia on November 20, 1944 to George and Mary Korink, Bill was raised in Falls Church before attended the Virginia Military Institute and later joining the Airforce. Settling in Maryland with his wife Sheri (deceased) in the mid 70s, he was known to enjoy weekends sailing on Chesapeake and supporting his children at their various sporting events.
While there are those that work to live, Bill was a man that loved to work. He held executive positions in the three most important support Directorates at NSA. Known as an excellent forecaster of technology trends, he had a reputation for challenging the system and preparing the organization to remain relevant and pioneering for the future.
After retiring from the government, Bill entered into Industry with several executive positions at Compaq, C.S.C., Scientific Engineering Solutions, and Intelligent Decisions/Federal Data Systems. His final landing spot gave him the opportunity to build a business line with many of his past colleagues from NSA where he was instrumental in creating one of the top 10 revenue earners at the agency. He eventually became a part owner after Federal Data Systems took over and he officially went into retirement in April of 2018.
He replaced weekends on the Bay with trips to his cabin in Deep Creek, frequent trips to Costco, movie marathons, and time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, Shannon, Christopher, and Brandon, as well as his son-in-law Sean and daughter-in-law Susan, both of whom he treated and loved as his own. A beloved patriarch and the “World’s Best Poppy,” he is also lovingly remembered by his three grandchildren, Eliza, Elinor, and Egan, his sister Lynn Hall, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake that thoughtfully made Bill’s final days comfortable for both him and his family.
