

She was born in Ellensburg on Oct. 16, 1961, the daughter of Wally and Shirley Nelson.
Carrie attended Ellensburg schools and graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1980. She later attended Yakima Valley Community College where she earned her Associate Degree as a registered nurse in 1985. Following graduation she went to work at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital where she specialized in out patient services and became manager of that department.
Carrie married Bart Bland in 1989, and together they had three daughters, Andrea, Shannon and Alexis (Lexi) Bland. Carrie met Frank Farrer in 2004. During their 11-year relationship, they had a son, Garret Farrer.
Carrie is probably best known for her compassion. She helped many people through difficult times using her outstanding nursing skills and witty personality. Carrie also is remembered for her sense of humor and silliness. She loved her family and friends whole-heartedly. She was admired by many for her intelligence, for being uncommonly generous, kind and selfless and for making a difference in people’s lives. Carrie’s warmth knew no bounds, she embraced everyone equally. Her beautiful smile and laugh will not be forgotten.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Russ. She is survived by her children, Andrea, Shannon and Lexi Bland and Garret Farrer; companion, Frank Farrer; sister, Joni (Dave) Leman; nieces and nephews, Tami (Matt) Willey and children, Hanna, Harper and Oliver; Nate (Teresa) Standish and children, Bella and Taynum; Joe (Nicole) Standish and son, Finnegan; and Kayla Standish; cousins, Alan (Gail) Carlson and family and Don (Marsha) Osborn and family; as well as many, many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m., Aug. 8, at the Ellensburg Moose Lodge, 206 N. Main St.
