

Carrie Lee McElroy passed away on June 9, 2012, at the age of 87. Carrie was born August 15, 1924, in Dustin, Oklahoma. She moved to Washington to marry Leland McElroy (who preceded her in death in 2003) on September 27, 1942.
Carrie worked for the Bonneville Power Administration during World War II while Leland was in the service and stationed overseas. In 1945, her younger brother, Allen Harmon, came to live with Carrie and Leland and was raised by them. Later, she worked for the Washington National Bank until her children were born and then she became a homemaker. As the children grew, she returned to work at the bank (which later became Wells Fargo Bank) as a note teller until her retirement in 1984.
After moving to Ellensburg, Carrie was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a leader of the Women’s Christian Circle and served as treasurer of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (C.W.F.).
After retirement, she volunteered at the church office, the Mustard Seed Book and Bible Store, the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and as a member of the church wedding committee.
Carrie loved to bowl, dance, camp, fish, cook, crochet, and entertain friends and family whom she loved very much.
Survivors include her son, Mike McElroy (Cathy); and daughter, Susan Clapper (Mike); four grandchildren, Julie Miller (Neal), Paul McElroy, Gary Clapper (Crissie), and Lainie McElroy; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Allen Harmon (Billie) of Ellensburg; and her sister Norma Wooten (JB) of Checotah, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Steward & Williams Tribute Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at the First Christian Church, 600 N. Ruby, Ellensburg, Washington, with interment immediately following at the High Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions are welcome and may be sent to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 600 N. Ruby, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
