Ruby K. Rosenberg passed away July 7, 2016. She was born February 26, 1935 in Meade, Kansas to John & Omi (Cordes) Johannson. She grew up on the family farm with brothers Grover and David, attending & graduating school in Meade. In February of 1954 she was introduced to her future husband, Rick, through a cousin who was stationed with Rick in the Army. Upon completion of his Army service, Rick headed back to Kansas where he & Ruby were married August 1, 1954. After the wedding Rick returned to Ellensburg with his new bride where they lived with his folks until they bought their own home in 1955.
Ruby had a passion for animals, in particular horses. She loved to raise orphan colts of which she pampered and fed them better than their own mothers. She passed down this love of animals to her two sons, Fred & Tony. There was always a variety of animals around, she loved all breeds of horses-didn’t matter the color or size she loved them all.
Ruby was a 4-H leader for over 20 years. She & Rick started the Stirrups & Irons 4-H Club of which they opened up their home and shared their knowledge of horses to many local youth down through the years. Ruby was a very giving person who was willing to help anyone who shared her passion of horses. Her endless knowledge began with the breeding-to foaling -to making them shine and adding all the bling for the show ring. She loved the horse shows. Ruby wasn’t a stranger to the show ring herself, she walked many horses in the ring, along with full hands on of all the prep work to make them shine, and they did just that…Shine!
For many years Ruby worked at a local Thoroughbred Farm, where she did the feeding, stall cleaning, breeding, mare & foal care, training, vet care and preparing them for the track. Sometimes she continued with the training at Yakima Meadows, teaching the colts to come out of the starting gate. When that farm was sold, she was excited to continue her passion of working with horses at a Tennessee Walking Horse Ranch. She continued there using her many skills of taking care of the horses, which also included many packing trips to the mountains riding the Walking horses. This ranch is where she got her big, beautiful Tennessee Walking horse, RubysBarnBaby-the name says it all. Ruby was a true horseman-the care of them was priority and above her own needs. That was Ruby, kind, loving person that didn’t know a stranger, but if you did her wrong or harmed a horse, she wasn’t shy to let you know. Her easy smile and warm hugs will be missed. The horse world lost an amazing horsewoman, wife and mother, but those that were fortunate to know her, will never forget her. Ride on dear Ruby…..ride on!
Ruby is survived by her husband of 60 years; Rick, son; Tony (Jody) Rosenberg, brother; David Johannson of Kansas & four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother; Grover and son Fred. The family will hold a private service at a later date. The family would like to express thanks to all that provided food, support and Special thanks to Steward, Williams for their excellent care through this process.
Arrangements under the direction of Steward & Williams Tribute Center, Ellensburg, WA.
