Carolann was born in Norfolk, VA to James & Patricia Sheets on April 20th, 1954. She graduated from University of Florida with a bachelor’s in mathematics in 1976 and master’s in education in 1978. She worked as a math teacher for Cardinal Mooney H.S, Southeast H.S, and Lakewood Ranch H.S. She was also an adjunct college professor for State College of Florida. Carolann has taught school for over 40 years. She retired in 2017 from teaching high school in Mantee county, but still decided to keep on teaching college math until Spring of 2022 while she was going through cancer treatment.
Carolann was not only an amazing mother, but also a caring, compassionate friend and family member to so many people. She touched so many lives with her love, her care, and her humor. However, she also showed her strength, her perseverance, and her heart as she fought her cancer for 2 ½ years. Carolann wanted to show cancer whose boss, and she did. She beat it once in 2014 and when it came back in 2021, she was up for another fight. She did everything under the sun to beat cancer no matter how many treatments or obstacles she needed to overcome in the process. She did not do this for herself, but those close to her. In this regard Carolann was selfless and wanted to stay for her family and loved ones’ sake. Carolann knows she did everything that she could and now can rest and be at peace, knowing that it was only her body that failed; never her spirt or her beautiful soul. Carolann will be greatly missed by many and remembered forever in our hearts.
Carolann is preceded in death by her Father James Sheets, Brother-in-law Jim Shearer
Carolann is survived by partner Nathaniel Porter, Children Natalie, and Ethan Porter, Mother Patricia Sheets, Siblings Cheryl Shearer, and Steve Sheets, Nieces Melissa, and Jessica Sheets.
The family of Carolann wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Florida Cancer Speaclist, Sarasota Memorial Oncology team, and Tidwell Hospice Bradenton and a special thanks to all the people who donated to make this special service possible.
