

Charles Roscoe Wright known to family as C.R., and friends as Chuck at the age of 79 peacefully passed through the veil of mortality to eternity in the home of his daughter in Palmetto, Florida on April 24, 2026.
He was born September 28, 1946, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, a son of the late Frank Bruce Wright and Ruthie Mae Tripp.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years as a Radioman. Then went on to serve 12 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Army and another few years in the Army Reserves. He achieved the rank of Major and received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2 Campaigns), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
Charles was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1964. He said, “Being baptized a member was a decision I never regretted.” His deep faith the Lord Jesus Christ saw him through many trials, tribulations, and difficulties. He faithfully served in many capacities within the church during his lifetime.
His greatest joy was working with youth. As father and leader in the Boy Scouts of America he had many opportunities to teach, help, and encourage youth. In his latter months he was known to quip, “I’m doing the best I can with what little I got.”
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother Richard Wright. He is survived by his siblings, Gary Wright, Bonita Crabtree, and Sammy Wright. He will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Sherryl Saffell Wright and his children John Wright, Walter Wright, Charles Levi Wright, James Wright, Michael Wright, Jennifer Wright Anderson, William Wright, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may visit Monday, May 11th from 11 AM until the time of funeral service at Groover Funeral Home, 1400 36th Avenue East Ellenton, FL 34222. Funeral services will be held same day at noon. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sarasota National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
