Rev. David J. Schmoll of Orange, Vermont, eagerly met his Lord and Savior on the morning of July 26, 2025 after many years as a faithful servant. Born on April 12, 1931 he was the son of John and Helen Schmoll. David grew up in the small community of Oaklyn, New Jersey where he was an avid lover of sports, particularly the professional teams of nearby Philadelphia. As a young adult, through the ministry of Haddon Heights Baptist Church in New Jersey, where he remained a life-long member, David committed his life to the service of Jesus Christ. David graduated from the Philadelphia Bible Institute, later known as Philadelphia College of the Bible, and now Cairn University, and then began his career for well over the next four decades with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), a children’s Bible ministry. Early in his career with CEF, he met and fell in love with Betty Blow. They were married and settled in Pennsylvania where they served as Directors of Child Evangelism Fellowship in Northampton and Monroe Counties until their retirement. As an ordained Baptist minister, David also had many opportunities to preach and share God’s message in local churches that were supporters of the ministry of CEF. Following their retirement, David and Betty moved to the Bradenton Missionary Village in Bradenton, Florida, where they both continued to be active in various ministries and activities in their church and community. Following Betty’s passing in 2012, David relocated to Vermont to live with his son and family in Orange, Vermont. Despite being physically blind for many years, David maintained a sharp and clear spiritual insight and God continued to use him to teach and to preach right up until just a few weeks before his passing and entering into God’s presence. He was active in the Websterville Baptist Church up until the time of his death. David was a man of unshakable faith and firm convictions that inspired the lives of all that knew him.
David is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Joni Schmoll, and grandson, Zak, all of Orange Vermont, his granddaughter and her husband, Darcy and Tom DeMatties of Poultney, Vermont. He is also survived by his brother Alan Schmoll of Marlton, New Jersey and his brother and his wife, Ron and Gail Schmoll of Asheville, North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A committal service will take place at the Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto, Florida at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in David’s memory to CEF of the Greater Lehigh Valley P.O. Box 20911 Lehigh Valley, PA 18002-0911
