Doris Faye Montanez

Mom moved to Florida in the 70's where she met our dad, Feliciano Cruz Montanez from Puerto Rico, and started a family. She worked occasionally while still raising 3 daughters, running the house and helping dad's small business where she made appointments and handled finances. We never went without.

Mom was the type of person who made friends easily and kept lifelong friendships for many years. She could be sitting at a store or busstop and complete strangers felt comfortable and safe enough to start up a conversation with her and tell their life stories. She'd say she didnt know why but she'd happily lend an ear.

The only thing mom loved more than her soap operas, thrift stores, chihuahuas, cats and a hot cup of black coffee were her grandkids. She played an important role in helping to raise them all, in some form or another. Nana was always ready for their hugs, to hear about their day..and to give a naughty little pinch on their knee.

Mom was preceded in death by her mother and father, siblings Dorren Harris, Vernon Baker, Bill Baker, and Janet Baker as well as her husband Feliciano. Her favorite pet Joey, was waiting for her on the other side.

She is survived by her daughters Felicia (Gary) James, April (Kevin) Florida, Crystal (Spencer) Stewart, grandchildren Aaron, Noah, Elizabeth and Ava as well as siblings Donna (Milton) Trotter, Deloris Nixon, Dorothy Cooper, Keith and Tom Baker and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her two cats Biggie and Lily miss their mom too.

Mom was an avid reader and loved a really good book. Whenever you're at the library or a book sale, take a peek in the cover....if you see her trademark "Ive read this book already" checkmark, you'll know it was read by her and approved! It would be lovely if everyone donated a few unwanted books to their local assisted living homes in honor of Mom. Feel free to put her checkmark inside before you do. ❤️
