Gone home to be with her greatest love, Jesus, Elizabeth Joan McMahan Daves was the kind of woman who loved to call on her Lord for almost every task she attempted in her daily life. Never one to dismiss His help or His provision, she would text her only daughter most evenings the words, “Sweet sleep and rest in the arms of our Lord.”
Joan had a unique sense of humor. Many time when she was having conversations with her children, while bantering back and forth, she would hold up her two arms with clenched fists and say, “Do you want six weeks in the hospital or sudden death,” followed by a sheepish grin. It was her way of turning any argument into light-hearted laughter. Time she spent with her children was her greatest treasure.
She was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. Joan never met a stranger, and never hesitated to tell perfect strangers about her family.Never having an abundance of wealth, she would give whatever she had to someone in need. In her later years, Joan developed a deep and loving passion for Jesus. She would tell everyone she met how He had saved her. The stories she told may have been repetitive, but she would always love to tell them. Especially those of faith and family.
Joan was unmarried and is survived by her children David Conn of Sacramento, California, Timothy Conn of Ellenton, Florida, Lori Conn-Johnson of Punta Gorda, FL, and Gregory Conn of Miami, FL. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services for Joan will be held at Groover Funeral home, Ellenton, FL on Saturday May 26th at 11 a.m.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to “American Lung Association” in her honor.
