While born in Troy, New York and raised in Lansingburgh, NY, he lived most of his life Averill Park, NY. He made the move down to Florida in 2007 with his late wife Jeanne to be closer to their two sons.
He was the beloved son of the late Rudolf and Freda Nikles. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending tome with his family, and watching TV – specifically old cowboy movies, Gunsmoke and Bonanza. He was also a huge fan of the Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune and let’s not forget Home Improvement with “Tim the Tool Man Taylor”. He was devout catholic and loved doing wood-working projects. He always took pride in the house he built and the meticulous lawn he maintained.
Above all, he truly enjoyed being with his family. Survivors include his two sons and their wives, David & Sandy, Dennis & Diane; his grandchildren & spouses, Justin & Sarah, Jenna & Adam Stump and Sara; and great granddaughter, Elinor.
Viewing will be held at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave. East, Ellenton, FL 34222 from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, October 4th. A military procession and service will be held at10am on Monday, October 5th at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
