

Gary Lee Greenwell, 79, of Parrish, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Samuel and Elsie Jean Greenwell, Gary graduated from Atherton High School in 1965. He earned an Architectural Degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1971 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville in 1976.
He built a successful career in design and construction, working with Hartstern Architects, Humana, and Faulkner Hinton. He contributed to the design and construction of hospitals and medical office buildings nationwide. In retirement, he owned and operated a Jersey Mike’s Subs franchise.
Gary was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Louisville. He was a devoted University of Louisville fan, dedicated fisherman, enthusiastic card player, and served many years on the board of Cedar Lake Lodge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Lamb Greenwell; his daughter, Sienna Newman (Michael); his son, Bradley Greenwell; and his stepson, Geoffrey Pohlmann. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Britton, Andrew, and Nathan; and his brothers, Samuel Greenwell (Mary Ann) of Versailles, KY, and Roger Greenwell (Lisa) of Ashburn, VA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed immediately at 2:00 p.m. by a Celebration of Life ceremony at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Cedar Lake Foundation (cedarlake.org) in Gary’s memory.
