George Leon Clarke

George Leon Clarke was born on August 11, 1935 in "La Boca", Canal Zone, Panama. He was seventh of the eight children born to George Seon Clarke an Henrietta Inez King. His father emigrated from Barbados to work as a foreman at the Canal Zone. The family attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church where his mother was the organist and his father sang in the choir. George always yearned to see the world. After he graduated from high school, he joined the U.S. Army and married his high school sweetheart, Judy. The couple had two children Janice and Jarvis. George served during the Korean War. He was badly injured in a jeep accident during the war and was treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. While his physical ailments healed, he suffered from debilitating migraines for the rest of his life. He was proud to be a U.S. Veteran. He continued to serve our country as a US Customs Agent for over 38 years where he received numerous commendations and awards for his outstanding service and commitment. He is survived by his eldest sister, Zennetha Shepherd, who resides in Roosevelt, NY., His children and step children, and host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
