He was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania February 8, 1945 and was immediately adopted by his mother and father. He joined the ROTC while in high school and upon graduation, went into the Navy and proudly served his county as a corpsman for 6 years and as he often told other military men he met in grocery stores or on the street, “I took care of the Marines.”
Following his military service, he worked for TWA and traveled with his daughter all over the world. They would often spend Thanksgiving at the Hard Rock Café in London. We annually went to New York to buy school clothes. Other adventures included traveling to Hawaii for scuba diving and a surprise trip to Ireland.
In 1991 he married Margaret and they blended their two families into one and we all enjoyed the TWA perks.
While he was in high school he excelled in track and he continued that adventure by participating in 5K and 10K races and marathons for several years collecting many boxes of t-shirts and awards.
He never met a stranger. He took pride in wearing his Navy hats and enjoyed receiving compliments “thanks for your service” from everyone he met no matter where he was in restaurants, shopping, or buying his weekly lottery tickets. He promised everyone at least $1,000,000 as soon as he won.
When you think of George, the first thing you think of is a kind and generous man. George will be missed immensely by all who had the privilege of meeting him.
There will be a Celebration of Life in Sun City Center on February 10, 2024.
In lieu of flowers to honor George, please treat yourself to a lottery ticket and best of luck!
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.groover-funeral-home.com for the Myers family.
