Jim was born in Waldwick, New Jersey and was born into one of the first families to settle in that area from Holland in the 1600’s. His childhood was filled with a great love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He started a life of service at a young age, as he was chosen to be a runner for the town during WWII. These runners were to physically run and deliver messages of importance should the town lose all communication, in case of an invasion.
He went on to join the ROTC when he attended Gettysburg College, in Pennsylvania, where he met and then married his college sweetheart, Betty. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a 1st lieutenant in Fairbanks, Alaska. After serving his country he moved back to Waldwick, New Jersey where he built his own home by reading a Craftsman Book on” How To Build Houses”. It was beautiful and truly a labor of love!
After 28 years in Waldwick he retired to Parrish, Florida and resided in River Wilderness Country Club. He was an entrepreneur and owned several successful businesses during his life. His golden years consisted of golfing, fishing and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his daughter Lynne Benton and son, James H. Lampe Jr.,his wife Susan Lampe, grandsons Dalton and Trevor, and Logan his great- grandchild.
