JoAnn Ahmer, 85, of Palmetto, Florida, passed away on June 9, 2026. Born in Rockford, Illinois, she spent most of her life there before she and her husband, Don, moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement. JoAnn was so blessed to have two great loves in her life, Don, whom she carried her deep love for him until the very day she passed, and Ronald Wonderling who supported and was a loving significant other until her passing.
She was a woman who brought her own unique light into the world—incredibly funny, quick with a joke, and deeply gentle in her nature. For years, JoAnn shared her gentle spirit by consulting with cancer patients at a wig shop. She helped individuals facing hair loss find the perfect wig, carefully selecting the right color and style, and cutting it to their liking. More than providing a service, she offered a compassionate ear and a safe space, helping countless people navigate one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.
JoAnn also had a profound love for all animals, but she held a special passion for dogs. Over her lifetime, she dedicated her time to rescuing dogs in need and even bred them for a short period. A woman of many talents and interests, she was an avid reader who loved collecting dolls and traveling in their RV. She took immense pride in her home, finding great joy in decorating it and crafting her own beautiful floral arrangements. She will be deeply, deeply missed by those closest to her.
She was preceded in death by her adoring parents, Harry and Helen Harris; her husband, Donald Ahmer; and her sister, Jacqueline.
She is survived by her children: Rebecca, Timothy, Daniel, and Michelle. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nick, Amanda JoAnn, Dean, Chris, Melissa, Angelina, and Emily, as well as several great-grandchildren, and Ronald her significant other whom she loves dearly.
A visitation and funeral service will take place on Monday, June 15th, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park.
