OBITUARY

Joseph Ciancarelli

January 20, 1917February 21, 2021

Joe passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2021, with his beloved wife, Janet, by his side. Loving son of the late Leonardo and Francesca (Petrocco) Ciancarelli. Brother of the late Primalto, Cafiero, Dante, Gora and Maggio Ciancarelli. Joe is also survived by his sons, Paul Ciancarelli and his wife Joan of North Attleboro, MA and Joseph Ciancarelli and his wife Susan of Attleboro, MA. Loving grandfather to Taryn Degon and her husband Brian, Jessica Downey and her husband Brian, Amy Cofsky and her husband Rick and Andrea Ciancarelli. Proud great grandfather to seven great grandchildren. Survived also by his brother-in-law Earl Lewis and Earl’s partner Felicidad Navarro, and several nieces and nephews. Born on January 20, 1917, Joe recently saw his 104th birthday with many dear friends and relatives celebrating from afar. He grew up in Walpole, MA and met Jan there where they both worked at The Kendall Company. They were married in 1963 and resided in Lakeville, MA for many years. Joe retired from Cooper Industries in 1984, and left Massachusetts for the Florida sun in 1997 where he spent many, many happy years playing shuffleboard, entertaining friends and family and still rooting for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Joe had many other hobbies. He loved music, especially opera, classical and jazz. He was a beautiful piano player, sitting down to play even at 103 years old. He also loved to sing and once sang at the Old North Church in Boston. He was also an avid reader of history, a great golfer and even a bodybuilder in younger years. He loved animals, owning several beloved pets over the years. Joe will be remembered for his kind and quiet nature. He was loved by all, but no one more so than Jan. Married for 58 years, they spent a beautiful and vibrant lifetime together, and he will be sorely missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Thursday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s at 1010 24th Avenue West, Palmetto, FL 34221.

My best memory is standing next to him at the piano listening to him play and telling me the stories behind the different pieces. It always amazed me , the depth of his knowledge about the different varieties of music. He was the living definition of the word Gentleman. May you Rest In Peace.
