Joseph was the beloved husband of Kay Whalen and a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He lived a full and meaningful life marked by family, faith, service, hard work, and determination. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army and later built a life as an entrepreneur, always showing strength, independence, and a strong work ethic. Joseph was a true example of a man who loved God and lived a righteous life. As a devoted Catholic, his faith guided the way he lived his life.
He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and the love he had for his family. Joseph had a way of making people feel welcome, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. From the time he was a little boy and throughout his entire life, Joseph was always whistling — a sound that will be dearly missed. He was an excellent marksman and enjoyed shooting and collecting guns. Joseph also enjoyed building and flying airplanes and hovercrafts with his lifelong friends, James Biggins and James Chully.
Joseph is survived by his children, Michael and Sue Whalen, Lorraine Whalen, Terrence and Sheri Whalen, James Whalen, and Thomas and Janice Whalen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Whalen, his son, Patrick Whalen, and his daughter, Jodie Whalen.

A service to honor Joseph's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, officiated by Father Teofilo Useche.
