August 28, 1955 – July 3, 2026
Keith Russell Long, age 70, passwd away peacefully on July 3rd, 2026, in Sun City, Florida.
Born on August 28, 1955 in Muncie, Indiana he was the beloved son of Chester and Ruth Long. He grew up in the community, graduated from Delta High School, and was an active member of DECA. Prior to his accident, he worked at Ross Supermarket and always enjoyed eating at the local Pizza King.
In his youth, Keith was full of energy and passion; he was a proud member of Delta’s golf team and even shot par for 18 holes. At just 19 years old, while on his way home from a high school football jamboree, he survived a life-altering car accident. While that moment changed his physical path, it never dimmed his vibrant spirit. Over the next 50 years, he built a life anchored by his unshakable and strong faith in God.
His deep spiritual devotion was the bedrock of his daily life. Even in his hardest moments, his love for the Lord shone through. One of the most beautiful testaments to his spirit was that he could still sing every word to “Jesus Loves Me” – the very song his beloved grandmother taught him when he was a boy. That simple hymn remained written on his heart for a lifetime. He later moved to Florida with his parents, where they continued to care for and support him.
Despite the profound challenges and lifelong health struggles that followed, he demonstrated remarkable resilience, quiet strength, and an enduring spirit over the next five decades. He became a familiar and beloved fixture in his neighborhood, riding his three-wheeler bike around the community where everyone knew and welcomed him. He also had a deep affection for his pets Andy and Maggie. His family will forever admire the grace, faith and perseverance he showed throughout his long journey.
He is survived by his devoted father Chester Long of Sarasota, Florida and loving siblings, Katrina Smith of Sarasota, Florida, Nena Bragg-Burns and her husband Duke Burns of Parrish, Florida and Chadwick Long of Lake Mary, Florida; his cherished nephews and nieces, Michael Craig, Adam Bragg and wife Jennifer, Austin Bragg, Avery Bragg and wife Michaela, and Naomi Long; and his special great-nephews and great-nieces, Alexavier, Jacob, Layla, Sophia and August. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Long and brother Chris. He is now resting in eternal comfort, wholeness, and peace in the arms of his Savior.
A Celebration of Keith’s life will be held on August 28, 2026 located at 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, Florida at Groover Funeral Home. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to attend and share their favorite memories of him.
