Kenneth Duane Barringer

He is survived by his loving wife. Joan Barringer (Freeman) of 56 years.

His children include Trent (Angie), Dale (Pat), Duane, Keith, Lauren (Jay), Wendy (Jeff) and the late Robin. He has 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren that he loved and adored.

He received big hugs by all that loved him dearly!! He also returned them to his family and friends!

Kenneth is the eldest son. He and his brothers and father worked the 4 farms in Iowa farming the land and raising livestock. He often traveled to Chicago to the famous stockyards!

Kenneth served honorably 3 years in the United States Navy during World War II. He proudly shared with his family and friends how tears filled his eyes as he returned home and saw the Golden Gate Bridge looming ahead!

He went on an Honor Flight to Washington DC and was celebrated as one of the few remaining WWII Veterans not long ago. He also provided a video recording to the Library of Congress sharing his WWII battle story.

After returning home from the military he became a United Methodist minister and has maintained a lifetime service especially to his United Methodist Church of Sun City Center where he and Joan sat in the front pew every Sunday morning as well as their Sunday school lessons! (as teachers and participants)

He was also a professor, teaching at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated with a doctorate in Psychology to prepare himself for a career as a clinical psychologist in Waterloo, Iowa and Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He later went into private practice. He provided marriage counseling and volunteered at the Womens prison for counseling services as well. He would provide his counseling up until his last days,,,

A visitation for Kenneth will be held Monday, December 4, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Sun City Center United Methodist Church in the sanctuary, 1971 Haverford Ave, Sun City Center, FL 33573. A funeral service will immediately follow in the sanctuary Monday, December 4, 2023 from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM, 1971 Haverford Ave, Sun City Center, FL 33573.

A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery.
