Died suddenly on May 25, 2026, at the age of 73.
Margaret was born on December 4,1952 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to Stanley Pascoe and Jeanette Beckford. True to Jamaican practice, Margaret received the pet name “Pansy” as a very young girl from her father. It was a name that she would carry with her throughout her life. Like the flower, Pansy was bright, colorful and unique. As a young girl, Pansy grew up in Kingston with her mother. She would spend summers and holidays in Ramble, Manchester with her father’s family. Pansy attended Calabar Primary School. She graduated from Excelsior High School and began studies at Fitzhenley Commercial College. Upon graduation, she held various positions applying her skill set. Later, she was employed by Maxfield Park Children’s Home as a caregiver.
Pansy was blessed with a daughter, Arlene. Arlene would be her only child. Pansy was briefly married to Cecil Edwards. When that marriage ended, Pansy and Arlene moved together with family. They cared for each other for many years.
In the early 1990’s, Pansy migrated to the United States. She spent time in Rochester, NY with her dad and family before settling in Brooklyn, NY. Pansy was determined to make a life for herself in the states. She was employed as a Home Health Care Aid with Visiting Angels for many years providing private long-term care to the sick and elderly. She loved her patients dearly and they loved her. Pansy worked day and night, often weeks at a time. She navigated the NYC transportation system, working in Manhattan or Stamford, Ct, while commuting home to Brooklyn on her days off. Pansy never learned to drive, but that never stopped her from getting around. In September 1999, Pansy was blessed with a granddaughter, Danielle Margaret. She would be her one and only. She truly loved her Danny-Boo.
Pansy was a very active member of her church, Hyde Park Christian Church of the Evangel, Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of the church choir. She loved to sing, but more important to her were the friendships she created with her church family. Pansy’s faith grew deeper and stronger. During these years she often traveled to Rochester, NY to spend holidays with family or attend special family events (weddings, retirements, graduations, etc.) If there was a bus going to Rochester, she was on it.
In 2017, Pansy proudly became a US Citizen. This afforded her the ability to petition for the immigration for her daughter and granddaughter to the United States. She continued to work long and hard to bring her family back together.
Pansy enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was quite talented and often made beautiful garments for her friends and family. However, one of her prized processions was her cell phone. It provided her with the ability to keep in contact with her precious family and friends. She could be counted on to check in regularly with all those near and dear to her. Pansy’s laugh was infectious and her spirit was bright. If you didn’t answer when she called, she’d leave a cheery message to brighten your day.
In 2023, daughter Arlene and granddaughter, Danielle received immigration approval. Pansy, Arlene and Danielle relocated to Ellenton, FL to be near Pansy’s brother Dale and start a new chapter. Pansy was a very outgoing and social person; with a witty sense of humor. These were traits that mirrored her father. She quickly made friends throughout her new apartment complex. A new friend invited her to attend church at The Bridge, in Bradenton, where she began attending regularly. This social butterfly was right at home.
In 2025, Pansy entered Braden River Rehabilitation after a failed knee replacement. Despite her circumstances, Pansy remained positive and made the best of her situation. She worked hard to regain strength and stability with hopes of going home again. God’s word states “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”- Isaiah 40:31. God delivered on His word when He chose to call Pansy home to Heaven. We take comfort in knowing that God’s plans are the best plans. She is with her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is running, jumping and reuniting with all her loved ones that have gone before her. Hallelujah! Whether you knew and loved her as Margaret or Pansy, we thank God for her.
Margaret is survived by her devoted daughter, Arlene; granddaughter Danielle, sister Sonia (Lennie) Pascoe-Lodge, sister Heather Pascoe and brother Dale (Shelly) Pascoe, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends.
Margaret is preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Stanley and Iris Pascoe, Mother, Jeanette Beckford, and sister Pauline Miller.
Friends and family may share their condolences on Wednesday, June 3rd from 12 noon – 2pm at Groover Funeral Home, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to your church or favorite charity in Maragret’s memory. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Braden River Rehabilitation Center for the love and care they provided.
