“Mike” was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on a Thursday, July 10th, 1947, and peacefully departed this world on Monday, October 23, 2023, in Bradenton, Florida at Tidewell Hospice House of Lakewood Ranch.
Mike spent most of his younger years in Huntington where he was the only child of Brent and Eleanor Warren. He was gifted in sports and loved playing football for his high school there. Mike’s family eventually moved south to Longwood, Florida where he attended and completed his high school years at Lyman High School. There he excelled in tennis, helping to bring home a State Championship with his team.
The family eventually settled in Bradenton, FL and very soon after, Mike joined the Air Force where he proudly served our country for 12 years, rising to the level of Staff Sergeant E-5. He worked as an Aircraft Production Scheduler on F4s, RF4s, and SR71 aircraft and received The Air Force Commendation Medal for his meritorious service as the Crew Chief for the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron in Ubon, Thailand. Overall, he served in Texas, Thailand, Vietnam, California, finishing his career in Florida.
After the military, Mike would continue to serve, but on a more local level as a Deputy Sheriff with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department in Bradenton, FL. He started out as a Road Officer – Regular Posse part-time for several years, then full-time as a Corrections Officer for six years where he rose to the level of Sergeant. He worked hard and was eventually accepted as a full-time Road Deputy.
Mike loved the outdoors and always remarked that he would have been perfectly happy living alone in a cabin deep in the woods or on a mountain top. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, and just sitting around a campfire talking with his friends. Mike was a proud American; a true patriot who loved his country and family. In his later years, Mike became very close to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, leaning on God more as his health began to slowly wane. At last, God, in his mercy and grace, sweetly took Mike home to be reunited with Him. We rejoice in knowing that Mike is with Jesus and has been made whole! Amen.
Mike joins his parents, Brent, and Eleanor Warren in heaven and countless other family and friends. He is survived by his son Tom and his wife Debbie, his daughter Bernice and her husband Kevin, his son Jeffery and his wife Christina; 7 Grandchildren: Celisse and her husband Joshua, Briggs, Whit, Tyler, Sinclaire, Noelle, and True. 2 Great-grandchildren: Rowan and Perri; Aunts: Carolyn Sue Evans and Janet Parsons; Uncle Cecil Parsons; Cousin Kim Evans and many more cousins.
Graveside service with full military presence will be held in the near future at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton, Florida. Groover Funeral Home presiding. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Tidewell Hospice House of Lakewood Ranch in Mike’s name.
