Muriel (Merritt) Tara Johnson, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2019, in Bradenton, FL. Loving wife of the late John Nathaniel Tara, the late Kenneth Johnson, and the late Clarence Price; sister of Marion (Emmett) Parsons and the late Walter (Debbie) Merritt; devoted mother of Christopher John (Mary Beth) Tara; grandmother of Christian (Michael) Williams and John Nathaniel Tara II; great-grandmother of Elizabeth and Abigail Williams; aunt of Russell (Anne) Parsons; and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was born in Queens, New York City. She lived in the Long Island, NY, area until relocating to Florida in the late 1970s. A veteran, she served in the United States Navy during World War II. She was an avid traveler, line dancing instructor, and dedicated church and community volunteer. Mrs. Johnson most recently attended Bayshore Gardens Community Church, where a service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with a light luncheon to follow. A private family memorial observance will be held later in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the H2U program at Blake Medical Center, 6670 Cortez Road West, Bradenton, FL 34210.
