Nancy Black Wheatley went home to be with her Lord on July 27, 2016 at the age of 90. She was born and raised in Clearwater, the seventh generation of her family to be born in Florida. She married Rev. Reginald Wheatley in 1953 and they had five children: Anne, Reggie, Janet, Cindy, and Nancy Lynn. Nancy and Reg were happily married until his death from cancer in 1991. Nancy then settled in Orlando to be near her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Hunters Creek.
Nancy devoted her life to serving God and others. After graduating from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia she spent three years as a missionary in Cuba. After their marriage, she and Reg served as missionaries in Central America for ten years. When the family moved to Florida in 1965, Nancy served as a minister’s wife and as a social worker for nearly 30 years. She touched the lives of so many people with her compassion, faith, and sweet spirit.
Nancy is survived by her four daughters: Anne Hoofnagle, Janet Wheatley, Cindy Wheatley, and Nancy Miller; her ten grandchildren: Drew Pratt, Nathan Hoofnagle, Eric Hoofnagle, Emily Hoofnagle, Jared Brouillard, Jana Dettore, Danielle Lovoy, Dustin Lovoy, Christopher Miller, and Abby Miller; and four great-grandchildren: Adeline Dettore, Faye Dettore, Vivenne Dettore, and Alexander Brouillard.
Funeral Services will be held at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave. E., Ellenton, Florida on July 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm with reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Nancy’s memory be sent to the United Methodist Church Global Ministries http://www.umcmission.org/ or to Wesleyan College http://www.wesleyancollege.edu/ .
