

Scottie Lee Birchfield of Parrish, Florida passed away peacefully at Manor Care Nursing Home in Sarasota, Florida on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at the age of 87 years old. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 29, 1934 to parents Cortis Birchfield and Neva Peck Birchfield.
He attended Vandalia-Butler High School in Vandalia, Ohio and graduated in 1952. He then attended Ohio Wesleyan College on a basketball scholarship. Scottie married his High School sweetheart and love of his life Nora Workman on June 25, 1955, and they had 4 children. He worked at NCR in Dayton, Ohio for 20 years and at the same time joined the United States Air Force Reserve where he served for 11 years. He also resided in Marshall, Il and Coudersport, Pa before moving to Parrish, Fl in 1993. After he moved to Florida he worked as a meat cutter for Albertson's and Publix before retiring.
Scottie loved to watch any sport that was in season, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, and loved to bowl and play Euchre. He was a little league baseball coach and umpire. Anyone that knew him would describe him as easy going, kind hearted, with a good sense of humor and friendly smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents Cortis and Neva, Nora his wife of 63 years, brothers Price Birchfield, Johnny BIrchfield, Robert Birchfield, and sister Betty Jeffers.
He is survived by daughters Diana Burnside (Kent Burnside) of Ellenton, Fl and Julie Wolgamott (Charlie Wolgamott "deceased") of Columbus, Oh and sons Timothy Birchfield (Rick Carrick) of Columbus, Oh, and Garisson Birchfield (Cesar Aravena) of San Francisco, Ca, along with brother Eugene Birchfield (Judy Birchfield) of Kettering, Oh. He has 6 grandchildren : Bradley Burnside (Mark Alexander) of Los Angeles, Ca, Brittany Avera (Jason Avera) of Atlanta, Ga, Brandon Burnside (Christin Burnside) of Lakewood Ranch, Fl, Zakaraya Wolgamott of Columbus, Oh, Jennifer Wolgamott of Columbus, Oh, and Ashlee Wolgamott of Columbus, Oh. He has 10 great grandchildren : Adryel, Amiera, Brooke, Kendall, Kinsley, Jio, Jionni, Cristiano, Jia, and Riley.
Scottie will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, co-worker, and neighbor to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be planned sometime in the spring of 2022 along with an inurnment service, and at that time Scottie and Nora's ashes will be placed together forever at Groover Funeral Home in Ellenton, Florida in the cremation garden.
