Shawn Patrick Maginness was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Shawn will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Shawn was born on July 4, 1960 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota Fl. He was the son of John Frank and Katy Maginness and Sharon Roberts. Shawn grew up in Palmetto Fl.
Shawn has One sister. He had a sister named Mary Erin Gostowsky.
A typical teenager, Shawn had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Palmetto High School in 1978. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
On June 4, 2000 Shawn exchanged wedding vows with Denise Ayres at Ebony and ivory chapel of Clayton NC. Empathic and loyal, Shawn was committed to making his new family happy.
Shawn worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Shawn was blessed with 2 children and 5 stepchildren, Sherry ( Maginness) Newman, Shawn P. Maginness,jr, Amber Breeds, Aminda Gonzelaz, Alex Breeds, Janet Parker. Another blessing for Shawn was the gift of 17 grandchildren, Amy Maginness, Hannah-Rose Brown, Elizabeth Seyer, Kayla Newman, Zachary Brown, Rissa Breeds, Haylee Brown,Charles Seyer, Angelina Miles, Heather Brown, Alexa Breeds,Amelia Parker, Brooklyn Seyer, Derek Breeds, Sharon Whipple, and Ryssa Whipple.
Fortunately, Shawn enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Shawn worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was in garbage collection. He was employed for 16 years by Waste Management and 1 yr by Waste Pro. Shawn always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Shawn was an Navy veteran. He was in submarine service as a radioman from 1978 to 1986. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of chief petty officer. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Shawn enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were bowling and fishing as well as traveling. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Shawn found pleasure in sports. Shawn was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were the Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Chiefs.
Shawn was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. Pat loved all of his dogs especially Rocky and his cat Rife. They were best friends for 11years and 10 years. His family was rounded out by his poodles Yogi and Grizzly.
Simply stated, Shawn was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Shawn leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Shawn Patrick Maginness.
A visitation for Shawn will be held Friday, February 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222. A celebration of life service will occur Saturday, February 11, 2023 at12:30 PM, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222. Interment will take place Saturday, February 11, 2023 following funeral services at Gillette Cemetery, 8996 Ellenton Gillette Rd, Palmetto, FL 34221.
