Bill was born on March 22, 1940 to Elliot and Charlotte (Hamblet) Alger. He graduated from Holliston High School, Holliston, M.A. and attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. He proudly served 4 years in the US Navy.
After service, Bill joined his wife and high school sweetheart, Suzanne “Susie” (Curtis) Alger in Holliston, M.A. where they began their family in their hometown.
Bill had a long and successful career with Honeywell International Inc., relocating to Amherst, NH and spending time in Anger, France with Susie, a time they truly enjoyed.
Bill and Susie served the community of Amherst, N.H. for many years, among their volunteer services, they were part of the original Amherst Rescue Squad. Bill was then recruited to the Amherst Fire Department, where he made many strong friendships, and earned the nickname “The Shadow”. Bill was also an honorary member of the Amherst Garden Club, assisting where needed.
Bill loved fishing on Silver Lake at the cottage in Madison, N.H., antiquing with Susie, playing games. Bill’s true passion was working in his wood shop, filling Susie’s never ending to-do list and creating beautiful heirlooms for his ever growing family. Bill was very generous with his time and skill, helping others wherever there was a need.
But, the true joy of Bill’s life was spending time with his family. He was a beloved husband, Dad and Papa.
Bill and Susie retired to the Colony Cove in Ellenton, FL in 2016. Here they made many new friends and Bill was the official greeter of North Utrecht street.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and brother, Steven F. Alger. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Suzie, a sister, Julie and John Bevilaqua and four children - Gayle and Bill Holden of Dresden, ME, Julie and Rand Hinman of New London, NH, Christopher (Chris) Alger, Amherst, NH, and William and Tracy Alger of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by his eleven loving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
