

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved David Michael Mercado on May 29, 2025 in San Diego, California.
David was born on November 11, 1966 in Escondido, CA. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelley; his children, Michael and Maddie; his mother, Sheryl (Steve); his father, Robert (Leslie); his sisters, Kelly and Julie; and his brother, Paul. He also leaves behind his nephews, Max and Luke; niece, Kate; parents-in-law, Barbara and David (Brenda); brother-in-law, Jack; sister-in-law, Bonnie; and countless other cherished family members and friends who loved him dearly.
A devoted husband and father, David found his greatest joy and fulfillment in his family. Whether it was cheering on his children at their games, accompanying them to various activities, supporting their passions, or simply spending quiet moments together, he treasured every opportunity to be with them. A man of strong character, David worked tirelessly to provide a secure and loving home, always offering unwavering strength, guidance, support and unconditional love. His presence will be deeply missed.
David graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1995 and began his career as an assistant tennis coach at Clemson University, where he served until 2000. An accomplished athlete and coach, he carried his passion for sports into every aspect of his life. That same year, he joined Stryker, beginning a lifelong career marked by dedication and impact.
At Stryker, David was more than a colleague- he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of energy and positivity. He took pride in his work, striving to make a difference and inspiring those around him. His kindness, intelligence and generosity touched everyone who knew him, and his legacy and memory will always endure in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests planting a tree in David’s memory to Plant a Tree or donating to Ronald McDonald House of San Diego, San Diego Humane Society or a charity meaningful to you. Please see the Donation section below for a direct link to the charities.
