

Dottie graduated from Scripps College, Claremont, CA with a BA in Child Development and Humanities. She earned a certificate in Occupational Therapy from USC and became a registered Occupational Therapist. She held numerous clinical positions specializing in pediatrics. She received her master’s degree in education from Stanford University and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin and Virginia Commonwealth University.
She retired in 1991 after working for the San Diego County School system as an Occupational Therapy Consultant helping the handicapped and at-risk infants. She was an active docent at the San Diego Museum of Art for over 10 years, where she held various positions on the Docent Board. She had a passion for art and good literature.
Since retirement she has especially enjoyed artwork, bridge, music, reading good books, gardening, travelling, volunteering, keeping in touch with old friends and anything outside in beautiful North County.
She is survived by two nieces, Regina Jirgal and Dorothy Mordeci and three nephews, Thomas (Casey) Jirgal and Jeffrey Jirgal of the Pearl River, NY area and Steven Jirgal of North Carolina. Her only brother John Jirgal is deceased.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Humane Society and Doctors without Borders. There will be a Memorial service on June 1st at Glenbook Health Center.
