“Betty” Reagan was born in St. Lawrence, South Dakota, to parents Charles William Wilson of Oaktown, Illinois, and Mona Gertrude Lambeth Wilson of Sullivan, Indiana. The first seven years of her life were spent on their farm, where she enjoyed singing to the farm animals. In 1929, just before the Great Depression, her parents sold the farm and made a big move to Corona, California. She graduated from Corona High School in 1940, whereupon she married Herman L. Reagan on June 30, 1940. She attended Business College in nearby Riverside, working in the clerical field during World War II, while Herman served in the U.S. Navy. Betty and Herman had two children, Stephen Eugene and Carol Joy.
Betty was part of the choir at Corona Church of Christ, and began singing at weddings and funerals, even having stints on a radio station in Long Beach. The family later moved to Pomona where she landed a position as vice principal’s secretary at Pomona High School. After a few years, a move was made to Costa Mesa, where she again was secretary to the vice principals.
She enjoyed reading spiritual books and became fascinated with holistic medicine and life’s mysteries. She became a member of the Association for Holistic Health in San Diego in 1980, as well as the Association for Research and Enlightenment. She and Herman moved to Payson, Arizona, after Herman’s retirement. Betty was secretary of the Women’s Club of Payson and played piano for her church. After Herman’s death in 1996, Betty relocated to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with daughter Carol and her husband Darrell. With Darrell’s passing in 2012, the decision was made to return to the San Diego area, settling in Oceanside, to be near family.
Betty will be remembered for being a great mother and grandmother who was proud of her children and grandchildren, being a fabulous cook, having a wonderful sense of humor, and for her kind and generous soul. She passed away October 4, 2022, in Oceanside, California, at age 100. She is survived by her daughter Carol Gould; daughter-in-law Allana Reagan; grandchildren Christen Wiley, Holly Volberding, Heather Summers, Joshua Reagan, Marleah Reagan; great grandchildren Ryan Kelley, Christian Bravo, Shane Volberding, Elizabeth Volberding, and Dylan Summers; step grandchildren Jovelle Garcia, Darilyn Gould, Darcy Byrne, Mark Gould, Kristina Adams, and Amy Gould; step great grandchildren Jennifer Byrne, Garrett Byrne, Alex Protosevich, Christopher Seth, Katie Gould, Rylen Garcia, and Raleina Garcia; and three step great- great grandchildren.
