Frank Joseph Potenziani

FRANK A. POTENZIANI, age 81, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. He joins his parents, Anthony and Martha (Korody) Potenziani, and other cherished family members and friends who have gone before him to Heaven.

Loving husband of Cheryl for 58 years. Devoted father of Frederick (Michele), Gregory (Kimberly), David (deceased), and Cyrena (James). Doting grandfather of Taylor and Mathew; Trenton, Brielle, and Ava; and Isabella, Jonathan, and Carleigh. Dearest brother of Patricia Vick, William Potenziani (Don), and Kathleen Guggino (deceased).

Frank was born on January 30, 1945, in Aurora, Illinois. As a boy, his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He then graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a deep love for his alma mater that shaped his life. He also obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

Frank was an attorney, banker, investor, Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Member of the Advisory Council of the College of Business at Notre Dame, and philanthropist running M&T Foundation, a charitable family foundation.

All the while, he was at his best inspiring and mentoring students. He was an idealistic dreamer and worked to bring those dreams to fruition by envisioning, inspiring, and investing in students as moral leaders of the future.

Frank’s greatest sources of pride were his family of course, particularly his grandchildren, and the organizations he helped create. These included the Student International Business Council (SIBC) at Notre Dame, Benedictine College, and the University of San Diego; the alumni International Business Council; Notre Dame’s Center for Citizenship & Constitutional Government, and others.

He will be remembered as a most generous and gentle soul. Frank leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and devotion to his family and friends, and he will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

We will celebrate Frank’s life at the Church of the Nativity, 6309 El Apajo, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067 on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. A visitation with the family will be held from 10-11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment following at the Church of the Nativity’s columbarium.
