

It is with heavy hearts that we celebrate the life of George Ruehle- a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather and great grandfather. George passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on May 7, 2025.
George was born during the Great Depression, on May 2, 1933, in Bird Island, Minnesota to Ruben and Crescentia Ruehle. He was the 4th of 5 children. George attended Catholic school all 12 years of his education.
In July of 1953, George married the love of his life, Betty. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, many friendships, and deep-rooted family values. Their marriage, which spanned an incredible 71+ years, is a testament to their unwavering devotion to one another. They raised 6 children – Tim (wife Marion), Terry, Cheri (husband Mike), Colleen (husband Paul), Brian (wife Lydia) and Stacy (husband Gonzo) – instilling in them the importance of family, fun, and a love for camping and the outdoors. George also had12 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
While raising his family, during the years his older boys played baseball, George was involved in Little League – serving in the roles of Team Manager, Player Agent, and for a time as the President of the Skyline Little League. George also served as a little league umpire, and occasionally umpired baseball games while in the Army.
George left behind a rich legacy of love for his family and a passion for camping and sightseeing – traveling to all 50 of the United States, all the Canadian provinces, and 41 foreign countries. Along the way, he visited all the United States’ national parks.
After graduating High School, George moved to Minneapolis to work for Honeywell until October 1953 when he was drafted into the US Army. He served two years at Camp Carson, Colorado, now called Fort Carson.
After returning to civilian life, George spent his career with the US Postal Service. He first worked as a Clerk in Minneapolis, MN, and in 1959 he transferred to Chula Vista, CA as a letter carrier. George spent 17 years as a clerk/letter carrier before being promoted to Postmaster. As Postmaster, he served a combined 17 years in Potrero, Jamul, Cardiff, and Carlsbad. During his career, he served for a time as the President of the Letter Carriers Union in Chula Vista, then, later as Postmaster, he served for 2 years as the President of the San Diego County Postmaster Association.
George will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
A mass for George will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 9310 Dalehurst Rd, Santee, CA 92071. Following the mass will be an internment from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121.
