Gustavo Alfaro went home to the Lord on Friday, March 5th, 2021. He was 89 years old. Gus came to the US from Nicaragua at 12 years old with his Mom. Once here Gus dove into American culture learning the language while attending school at St Dominic's in San Francisco. He went on to attend high school at St. Ignatius and afterwards attended SF City College while working. He loved jazz music, mambo dancing and went to the various clubs in San Francisco to see the musicians perform and to dance. Drafted by the Army for Korea he instead elected to enlist in the Air Force.
He went to school to learn A&E mechanics and became a crew chief. He was stationed on bases in Germany, Norway, Denmark, France, and Tripoli, Libya. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked for the Bank of America in San Francisco where he met and married Jo Anne Peck.
They raised two sons, Mark and Greg, and two daughters, Chris and Rebecca. He entered an apprenticeship for the Navy as a Civil servant at Hunters Point Shipyard. Here he learned communication electronics and worked in this field until his retirement.
In retirement he liked to travel making frequent trips to Mazatlán and Hawaii with his Mother, Aunt, and Uncle and traveled to Nicaragua, Alaska, Spain and several trips inside the US mainland. He loved his family, his church, music, and travel. He lived a good life and achieved the American dream.
