With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joy Waldron, a loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend, who left this world peacefully on August 10, 2025.
Joyce Ann (Wall) was born in New York, September 18, 1948. Joy’s Navy family soon relocated west to San Diego, where Joy became a true California Girl. She lived a life full of curiosity, love, and generosity. As a liberated woman of the ‘70s she was ambitious, driven, and independent—proudly owning her own home at the age of 25 and building a life on her terms. In May 1973, she opened the front door to greet her blind date, a Naval Aviator named Michael; they soon fell in love. From that moment, their beautiful story together began, spanning more than 50 years of marriage, adventure, and devotion.
Joy had a deep appreciation for animals—especially elephants and birds—and carried a spirit of wonder wherever she went. She loved fashion and expressed herself with elegance and flair. Her passion for travel took her across the globe, where she embraced new cultures, experiences, and adventures with open arms and an adventurous heart. Italy was her favorite.
She also loved a good glass of wine, savoring the simple pleasures and toasting to life’s special moments. An extraordinary cook, Joy had the gift of bringing people together around her table, creating meals infused with warmth, flavor, and love.
Joy’s life was one of connection—whether with people, nature, or the beauty of the world around her. She delighted in the presence of hummingbirds, seeing in them a symbol of joy and beauty.
She will be remembered for her radiant smile, generous heart, and ability to make everyone feel valued and cared for.
She is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Raya Roll (Jason), granddaughter Jayda Joy, grandson Dominik; also daughter Kamilla Shea, two grandsons Nicholas and Trenton Klinger, and sister Michele McRight. Joy was beloved and cherished and we will forever carry her spirit in our hearts.
A celebration of Joy’s life will be held on TBD. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to consider gifts to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance honoring Joy’s lifelong love for animals, below at Memorial for Joy
Though she has left this earth, Joy’s spirit will continue to guide, inspire, and embrace all who knew her.
