Michael "Mike" Gene McFarland

Michael “Mike” Gene McFarland, 79, of San Marcos, California, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, in Oceanside, California, and was reunited in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Judy (Falk) McFarland.

Mike was born on August 16, 1947, to Ronald and Elizabeth McFarland in Oakes, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ronnette.

He is survived by his children, Lisette “Cody” McFarland and Michael “Matt” McFarland; grandchildren, Talia Sokol and Elias Sokol; siblings Gary, Anthony, Ronnell, Gregory, Jeffrey, Monica, Loren, and Melissa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

As the second oldest of ten children, Mike grew up in a large and lively family where he was never without companionship. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school in Milnor, North Dakota. Surrounded by siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, his life was filled with noise, laughter, and love. He cherished that sense of family and togetherness throughout his entire life.

A proud Army veteran, Mike served his country as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he continued his education, earning multiple degrees in business. He went on to work for many years as a project manager in the industrial field.

Eventually, Mike and Judy took a leap of faith and opened their own debt collection agency in the Twin Cities area. Together, they successfully built and operated the business, creating a life and partnership that Mike treasured.

After Judy’s passing in 2006, Mike retired and moved to a quiet farm in Northfield, Minnesota. There, he enjoyed the peace of country life and spent countless hours in his woodworking shop. He crafted birdhouses, planter boxes, and many other unique wooden creations, finding great satisfaction in working with his hands.

In 2024, Mike made another significant move, relocating to San Diego County, California, to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Being near family brought him great joy, and he treasured the time he spent with them.

Throughout his life, Mike loved spending time with family and friends and was always ready to sit down and “visit.” He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and loved a good game. Whether playing checkers, cribbage, or poker, Mike was always confident he could beat you—and he very often did.

Mike was also a devoted Christian whose faith was an important part of his life. He spent many hours studying the Bible and held a strong and enduring belief in God. His faith provided him with comfort, strength, and hope throughout his life.

Mike will be remembered for his love of family, strong faith, independent spirit, sense of humor, and the many stories and memories he shared with those around him. His family will deeply miss his presence, laughter, visits, and the unique mark he left on each of their lives.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Randolph Heights Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Interment will take place on October 10, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at North Isanti Baptist Church in Cambridge, Minnesota.

May he rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord, reunited with Judy and surrounded by eternal love.
