

Rex Donald Wing, age 91, passed on peacefully at his home in San Diego, on 16 December 2019.
Rex was a veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was born in Bellevue, Iowa and grew up in Chicago. The only son of Rex Alfred Wing and Marie Tebben Wing. He attended Lane Tech High School in Chicago and then graduated from Bellevue High School. On his 18th birthday, he received his draft papers from Uncle Sam.
Following a two year tour in Korea, he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Omaha and his Master’s Degree at Babson Institute. Commissioned into the Army Corps of Engineers and later transferred into the Ordnance Corps fulfilling a 30 year career.
His career included testifying in front of Congress as the project manager for the M16 Rifle. He was commander of Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, Pa., before returning to the Pentagon.
He was a dedicated and loyal officer. As well as a loving husband and father. Rex met Peggy at a dance in Washington, DC and were married in 1953 at Ft. Belvoir, Va. They were married for 66 years, with over 28 moves in his career. The patriotism and discipline he learned in the Army never left him.
Rex retired from active duty at the age of 48. He then went to work for Butler Aviation in Mclean, Va., for two years before starting the "Builder's Group". Rex and Peggy built over 300 homes in the Northern Virginia and North Carolina areas.
Upon retirement they relocated to sunny San Diego to be next to their eldest daughter, Penny. Soon after Candy and Sherry would follow. He was a voracious reader, loved politics, history and photography of which he put together over 7,000 photos of family and friends. He loved chocolate and he loved Life.
He is survived by his wife Peggy and their daughters, Penny, Candy and Sherry. Penny's husband Victor and his son Stefan. His grandchildren Christina, Saundra, Thomas, Rebecca and Hannah. He will be dearly missed by all.
Rex will be laid to rest at Fort Rosecrans Military Cemetery on December 30th at 1:30 with full military honors.
