Ron was born on June 18, 1950, in San Diego, CA, to Nellie Love. He moved to the San Joaquin Valley with his family and later moved back to San Diego when he was 15 years old, attending Crawford High School. Ron joined the military at the age of 18 and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1972, serving two tours in Vietnam and one in Korea. During his service he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded an Army Commendation Metal. After serving in the Army, Ron joined the California Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve while he attended San Diego Mesa College and San Diego State University. During this time he had the opportunity to attend Army Airborne School and graduated with his Jump Wings. He graduated from SDSU in 1977, with a B.A. in Accounting. Just before graduating from SDSU he met his future wife Kathy and was married on January 26, 1980. Ron worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a revenue agent for 34 years, during which time he passed the CPA exam and proudly served as a union steward.
Ron was known for his kindness, sense of humor, political passion, and love for the San Diego Chargers and SDSU Aztecs basketball. He loved to laugh and enjoyed sharing stories of childhood mischief, his time spent and places visited in the Army, and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes to earn his Jump Wings. Ron cherished spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren Emma, Jack, and Cameron.
Ron is survived by his wife Kathy (Knaust) Holfield, his children Sandy Holfield (Sean) Maisano, Michelle (Tom) Cramer, and Lisa Holfield, his grandchildren, his sister Rosalind Slatten, and his nephew Bruce Hamm.
Ron will be greatly missed and we will forever hold him in our hearts.
