ALVIN K. STENSTROM

April 16, 1927 – September 29, 2020

Alvin Kenneth Stenstrom was born in Elizabeth Township near Erhard, Minnesota, on April 16, 1927, to Anna and Gabriel Stenstrom. He was baptized and confirmed at the Augustana Lutheran Church In Elizabeth, Minnesota, where he also sang in the church choir with his two sisters and five brothers. Alvin was a Corporal in the US Army and he served in the 48th Military Government Occupation in Korea. After his discharge, Alvin went back to Minnesota, where he met and later married Audrey Dunphy on May 20, 1951. Alvin and Audrey moved to Florida, where Alvin worked as an electrician for Baldwin Electric and Englewood Electric. He was also a volunteer fireman. They had two sons, Michael and David. His wife Audrey passed away 1978. On November 30, 1979, Alvin married June Griggs and they resided in Englewood, Florida.

Alvin had a wonderful sense of humor, he loved and enjoyed people, and he was a great host to his many visitors. He had a big heart and he helped anyone who needed anything. He loved his family and his extended family and in his later years he enjoyed his “summer camp” vacations in Minnesota. He loved telephoning his Minnesota family and leaving fun and endearing messages. Fishing was Alvin’s No. 1 passion. He also loved jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, telling jokes, playing cards, bowling, golfing, music, and being outdoors. He cherished family reunions and time spent at Long Lake. He was well known for reciting memorized poetry and Bible passages and he also knew the words to most of the old hymns.

On Tuesday, September 29, Alvin passed away at his home. Alvin is survived by his son David Stenstrom; his daughter-in-law, Judy Stenstrom; his stepchildren: Mark Griggs and Gail Loring; 2 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law: Darlene Stenstrom, Marge Stenstrom and May Stenstrom; and many nieces, great-nieces, and great-newphews.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Audrey Stenstrom and June Stenstrom; his son, Michael Stenstrom; his sisters: Pearl Briggs and Lorraine Rylander; and his brothers: Bob, Clifford, Vernon, Eugene, and Arthur Stenstrom; his sisters-in-law: Alice and Doris Stenstrom; and his brothers-in-law: Merle Briggs and Glenn Rylander.
