

Don was born in Litchfield, Illinois to Sybil and Chester Striplin on April 1, 1926. He joined the U.S Navy at age 17; he was a Corpsman and served in England in WWII. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. In 1983 Don initially retired back home to Nashville, Tennessee. In 1994, Don and his wife moved to Rotonda West Florida. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Grove City, Florida. Don was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7276. He was a talented craftsman, enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cherished spending time with his family.
Donald Striplin is survived by his eight children and two step children: Margaret (Peggy) Ulrich, Donald Striplin, Patrick Striplin, Chester Striplin, Michael Striplin, Regina Beltran, Christine Wandling, Thomas Striplin, Gay Armentrout, Ruth Schadt; his nineteen grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grand-children and his brother, Robert Striplin. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Striplin of 56 years, and his second wife, Fern Striplin of 14 years, his sister Vestal Jackson.
Visitation will be held at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, 2 Buchans Landing, Englewood, Florida 34223 on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. A Celebration of Life is to follow with his son Chester Striplin officiating. The Interment will be on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 11:00am at the Venice Memorial Gardens, 1950 Center Road, Venice, Florida 34292.
Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 12034 N. Access Rd, Port Charlotte, Florida 33981. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the TideWell Hospice and most grateful for caregivers Laurie and Amy.
Donald Striplin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, mentor, friend, and he will be sincerely missed. His family will cherish the memories and he will forever be in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
