Jean was born on January 4, 1939. She was a 1956 graduate from Oxford Academy Central School. On September 28, 1958 she wed David Dexheimer of Guilford, New York.
Jean spent 12 years at Bainbridge-Guilford School District working as office support staff. She enjoyed her work and especially relished meeting the students as they grew older, while keeping her young. Throughout her life she enjoyed spending time with friends & family, traveling, golfing, gardening, playing cards & bowling. She was also an active member of Englewood United Methodist Church in Englewood, FL where she especially enjoyed organizing the annual rummage sale and singing in the choir.
Above all, her major life goal was to see her children and grandchildren happy and content. She brought joy to all who crossed her path. She was a funny, strong & very independent person. She wanted to give friends and family a happier, lighter moment in their lives as they brought pleasure to hers. She loved so many and was loved back by even more.
Jean is survived by her two sons, Tom (Corinna) Dexheimer of Riverview, Florida and Doug Dexheimer of Bainbridge, NY; Grandchildren, Sarah Dexheimer of Sidney, NY and Tyler (Amanda) Dexheimer of Mount Upton, NY, Megan Pedro, Ali Pedro, Heather Frey & Jon Meara; Great-grandchild, Jordyn Marie; mother to her grandchildren, Chris Dexheimer of Sidney, NY; canine companion, Mason & her two dearest friends, Anne Mott of Bainbridge, NY & Doris Crook of Englewood, FL.
Jean is predeceased by her parents, Ward & Evelyn (Guller) Bliven; late husband, David Dexheimer & grandson David Swartz.
In lieu of flowers, Jean requested donations be made to Guilford Fire Department or Englewood United Methodist Church. Also, in memory of Jean and her love for people, she asks that you be the sprinkles on each other’s ice cream- take a friend lunch, breakfast or dinner or just share your favorite drink together; have a gab fest or take a trip together. Leave a generous tip; pay for an unsuspecting person’s meal or movie ticket. Spread kindness and smile to make everyone’s world brighter.
A celebration of life will be held at Englewood United Methodist Church in Englewood, Florida on Friday, August 9th at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. A second celebration of life will be held at the Sundown Golf Course in Guilford, New York on Sunday, August 18th at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
The family of Jean would like to take a second to send a big thank you to Tidewell Hospice House for providing peace and comfort for Jean throughout her remaining days.
