Martha moved to Toronto, Canada as an infant. Married Thomas Smith in 1944 and settled in Buffalo, NY. They raised seven children.
She became a star of the stage at a very young age, singing on the radio in Canada. Short in stature but giant in personality, she was often asked to come up on stage no matter where she went. Many times upstaging the unknowing invitees. Only her son “Delray” knew what he was getting into.
Martha was a devout Catholic and sang in the St. Leo’s Catholic Church Choir in Amherst, NY. for 25 years. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Englewood, FL. She volunteered at Vineland Elementary School.
Martha was the last of her generation and influential to many generations after her. Preceded in death by Husband Thomas Smith, children Maryanne Smith, Thomas Smith, Kenneth Smith, and Martin Smith. Sisters, Betty Hanson, Jean Mason, Rita Graham, Sadie Diggins, Marion Parent and brother William Boyd.
The many people she left to shine in the world will miss her greatly including:
Son William Delray Smith (Kathy), daughter Sarah Vosburgh (Clifford), and daughter Kathleen Celeste (Donald), daughter in-laws Davene Smith and Lisa (Smith) Ricketts.
Blessed with grandchildren Brian Smith, John Smith, Jennifer Wardle (John), Melissa Morat (Matt), Rachel Smith, William “Little Billy” Smith II, Nathaniel Vosburgh (Kristin), Clifford Vosburgh Jr. (Kathryn), Amy Miller (Nick) Lesa Offerman (Danny), Timothy Fraser (Paola) , Michelle Koehler (Travis) Thomas Smith and Kaitlin Smith.
She also survived by lots of great grandsons only recently getting great-granddaughters. Justin Smith, Ryan Smith, Nickolas Rost, Maxwell Vosburgh, Zakary Vosburgh, Isaac Vosburgh, Eli Miller, Jace Miller, Jackson Wardle, Jameson Wardle, Dillon Vosburgh, Jane Vosburgh, Madelyn Offermann and Leah Smith.
Heavy on laughs, and lighting up any room she's in. God broke the mold Martha was made in. We pray that a piece of that mold was used to make each of us and our children.
Service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m. 5265 Placida Rd. Grove City, FL followed by a celebration of life at Gulf Cove Moose Lodge #2554 at 4212 North Access Road, Englewood, FL 34224
