Patricia Higgins Muskus, 99, died on Monday, April 12, 2021, in Port Charlotte, Florida.
She was born on March 17, 1922, to John and Nellie (Aniela Rak) Higgins in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Patricia grew up in Port Chester, New York. She showed an early interest in music and played trumpet in her high school band. She was part of an all-female trumpet trio, and the performances included Patricia’s special talent of tap dancing on roller skates. Patricia recalled her memories of playing, competing, and touring with the Port Chester High School band as among the happiest times in her life, and the friendships she made there continuing throughout her life.
Patricia married Joseph Frank Muskus (deceased) on November 29, 1941. They moved to Greens Farms, Connecticut in 1954 and raised a family of six children there. Patricia returned to school when she was in her 40s and graduated at the top of her class as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She had a long career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and was licensed in Connecticut, Florida, and Texas.
Patricia and Joseph moved to Englewood, Florida in 1975. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Patricia loved animals. She bred Norwegian Elk Hounds, owned horses and macaws, and had a special place in her heart for her German Shephard, Greta.
Patricia was an artist who created in many mediums, including ceramics and glass painting. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, her curiosity and tenaciousness, her generosity, and her quick wit and sense of humor.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sons, Ted and Joseph Jr.; sisters, Rosemary and Vivian; and nephews, Mark and Gregory. Patricia is survived by her children, Linda Valerian, Randy Muskus, Patrick Muskus (Cathy), and Cindy Plummer (Michael); 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and cousins, Nancy Richardson (Chase, deceased) of Englewood, and Mary Lou Reed (Ronald) of Rotonda, and their families.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 29, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Grove City, Florida.
