Kevin Douglas Kern

KERN, Kevin Douglas, 53 of Clayton passed away suddenly, March 14, 2016. Kevin was born October 18, 1962 in Dayton one of three sons of William “Bill” and Shirley (nee Schroeder) Kern. Kevin was preceded in death by his mother and one brother William “Scott” Kern. He leaves to cherish his memory his father, brother and sister-in-law Kerry & Sue Kern of Dublin, OH. Also surviving are his beloved nieces and nephews David & Jill Kern and their children Chace & Mila, Bradley & Jeanie Kern and their daughter Ellie, Amber Kern, Katie & Larry Housel and their children Austin & Ava, Kelly & Nick Adler, Kristen Kern and many, many friends. He was a graduate of Northmont High School Class of 1981 where he played drums in the band. Kevin devoted his life to serving the Northmont Community starting in high school as a volunteer fireman for the former Randolph Twp. Fire Department and Police Dept., as well as the City of Englewood Fire Department. He was also an EMT and dispatcher. His career path lead him to become a security guard at Good Samaritan Hospital and then as a Police Officer for Randolph Twp., and the City of Union. Kevin was sworn in as full time police officer on February 2, 1990. Throughout Kevin’s career with the department, he took on many roles and responsibilities such as Property and Evidence Room Manager, Evidence Technician, Department Armorer and also enjoyed being a D.A.R.E. Officer. Kevin retired June 28, 2011. Kevin recently had been working part time as a security officer at the Dayton Art Institute. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME ENGLEWOOD CHAPEL, 675 West Wenger Road, Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 4 – 7 pm. A Celebration of Kevin’s life will be at the funeral home on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens.
