Alexis was born on March 8, 1956 in Whittier, California and grew up in Pasadena, California. She owned a dog grooming business for many years and was also a dog breeder. She won many prizes at regional dog shows and competed in the national Westminster Kennel Club dog show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Alexis was predeceased by her parents Eugene Alberto Holmes, III, an aeronautical engineer, and Valentina Holmes Crosse, who managed the home. Her marriage to Peter Kiefer ended in divorce. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Kiefer Justo, her grandchildren Miguel Justo, Maria Justo, and Xander Hill, her sister Adrienne Holmes Bradford, and her dog Trixie.
