November 11, 1938 – February 17, 2013
Betsy Adams-Sanchez, lost her battle with phenomena on February 17,2013, surrounded by her loved ones. Born Elizabeth Pierce Adams in 1938, she was a life long resident of Pauma Valley. Betsy was the only child of Jack Adams & Jean K. Bartlett, both early residents who helped develop much of the area.
Betsy’s mother owned and operated the Pauma Valley Motor Lodge for many years and Adams Drive is named for Betsy's father Jack. When the Motel was sold, Betsy and her Mom, Jean, developed Rancho Corrido, camp ground and riding stable. It was at Rancho Corrido that Betsy was able to provide summer camp to many under privileged children. Over the years Betsy extended help to many and was involved with several projects in the Valley. One of her significant endeavors was working with others to establish the “Mountain Valleys Health Center”.
She was a die hard Charger Fan, no matter what kind of year they were having, she loved her team! Through out her life she was passionate about many things but horses and saving stray animals ranked at the top. Those who knew Betsy, will not soon forget her quick wit and keen sense of humor.
Betsy and her husband Enrique Sanchez cultivated their persimmon orchard and were one of the first to bring the Fuyu persimmons to the area. They especially loved their travel to Mexico, something they both looked forward to yearly.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Enrique Sanchez, her son J.P. Bartkowski (Robbie), her daughter Jean Bartkowski Baker (Ron) and her grandchildren, John M. Bartkowski, Joseph E. Bartkowski, Jessica Ostrander, & Justin Bartkowski and several great grandchildren.
Her "passing" takes with it, an era of Pauma Valley history and one of the few lifelong Pauma residents. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at her home on Sunday, March 03, 2013, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. It was Betsy’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the Humane Society. www.humanesociety.org/donate/

My Dear Betsy, there are no words to express my sense of loss. I miss you, your laugh, your humor, your turn of phrase, all the things that made you so unique.
I pray you have peace and that Gaga was there to guide your cross over. I know you heard our words to you as you lay there in the hospital. I trust you felt the love of those who came to spend just a few more minutes with you before you left us.
Your kids were at your side, as was your devoted husband. You were surrounded by love and prayers.
You've always been a free spirit, now you finally have wings. I send you love. See you on the other side.

That infectious smile on Betsy's face brings back the sounds of her laughter- a sound I have heard all my life, and I am very sorry that it is now in my memories. I always thought to hear it one more time- the next time I came to visit. I will miss her presence in the valley, a big part of my family's life there.
